The Grand Canal flows into the Saint Mark's Canal. If you look out from Saint
Mark's Square across the Canal, you can see the church of Saint George Maggiore
(San Giorgio). San Giorgio's looks as though it is floating on the water.

As the Maasdam was sailing out
of Venice, I got a great view of
St. Mark's Square. The bell
tower (campanile) of St. Mark's
is the tall building in the middle
of the picture. It's about 300
feet tall (the length of a football
field) and on a clear day, from
the top, you can see all the way
to the Alps. Also in the picture,
on the right are the domes of St.
Mark's.
