During my trip to Greece, I also visited Crete and the Palace of Knossos, which
is located near Iraklion. Knossos was founded before 3000 B.C. In the second
millennium B.C., Knossos became the center of the highly developed Minoan
civilization.
The Palace of Knossos was damaged by an earthquake
around 1700 B.C. Later the palace was rebuilt and it
rose three or four stories. The palace contained many
rooms, passages, and a well decorated throne room.
The labyrinth, a series of passages within the palace
was the legendary home of the monster known as the
Minotaur.
